ATLA(S)NOW

ACTIVITIES
ACTIVITIES

Till now Atla(s)now has realized the site specific artworks by Angelo Bellobono, Andrea Nacciarriti and Adam Vackar, as well the workshops with kids of the local schools, the girls of Education for all, the women of Tadert Titbirine atelier and Bassin de Imlil association, the Oukaimeden/Imlil mountain guides and ski instructor association.
Therefore, the training programs for the ski instructors and the construction of an Atla(s)now ski rental in Oukaimeden have raised new awareness and needs, such as the creation of a professional local association, able to manage independently and professionally business otherwise destined to be absorbed by and lost to institutional bureaucracy.
In this light, having succedeed in obtaining a Visa enabling Id Ali Brahim, a mountain guide and ski instructor from Morocco, to experience a residency programme in Italy, was particularly meaningful for the project.
Inviting a ski instructor and guide from Morocco has been a fundamental step for the project, as it represents a real connecting bridge, an arch stretching over two continents, which reinforces Atla(s)now to emphasize a key aspect of visual arts: generating thought by enriching and expanding all aspects linked to the function and definition of the role of art and the artist as well as all independent projects and the places where they unfold.
Atla(s)now has been presented at Digital Marrakech in two masterclasses in December 2010 and January 2013 at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts visuels de Marrakech (Esav), as a panel discussion at Residency Unlimited in New York, as part of INDEPENDENTS 3 at ArtVerona fair in 2012 and “Morocco and Market” international conference at Palazzo Valentini in Rome, as lecture at Tranzitdisplay in Prague on march 2014.
The project has also partecipated at the Official parallel program of the Marrakech Biennal 2012 and as partner project at the last Marrakech Biennal 2014 with the itinerant project “the atla(s)now bus: the age of decentralisation” concretely bridging the gap between Marrakech and its mountains by bringing people to visit the Atla(s)now Museum and activities on the mountains during the Biennale.
